Rector’s remarks
Dear Friends,
My suggested itinerary for the Team Outing on 28th June goes like this:
10.00am Coach leaves St. Luke’s
10.30am Coach at St. Finnian’s
12.30pm Arrive at Winter Gardens for Lunch and Wander.
14.30pm Tour of St. Andrew’s Cathedral
16.00pm Wander in Old Aberdeen.
17.30pm High Tea at Ashvale Restaurant
19.00pm Leave for home
21.00pm Home
The whole trip will cost £20 including a tip for the driver. You will need to take Lunch to eat in the coach or at Duthie Park – this surrounds the winter Gardens and looks out over the River Dee. Alternatively you can get a decent lunch in the Winter Gardens Café.
John Betjeman described St. Andrew’s Cathedral as the finest modern building in Aberdeen. The original St. Machar’s Cathedral is in Old Aberdeen, as is the picturesque King’s College Chapel at the University. If it is wet, we can easily modify our itinerary.
The Ashvale Fish Restaurant is famous and large. There is a choice of Haddock, Scampi, Chicken Breast or Fillets, or Vegetable Lasagna with Chips or Baked Potatoes and Peas. This goes with Tea or Coffee, bread and butter, cakes, muffins, pancakes and scones. I defy you to go home hungry! I have had this feast after a trip with my Aberdeen Churches – it’s good.
I now need definite commitments to this trip. Anyone not on the original list who likes the sound of it, do please sign up – the more the merrier. I would like to make a definite booking as soon as possible.
I hope the Ministry rota for the next three months is going to be an improvement over what you have been having. Then the real fun should start.
Grace and peace to all,
David
