Our Mission

At the beginning of the Bible, we learn that God created the world.   God continues his creative activities, indeed we could consider God to be creativity itself.    People have always tried to get in tune with this creativity or influence the direction of God’s creative work.

Jesus did this so successfully that people thought he was God’s creativity in person.   Jesus called people to follow him.   We seek to follow in his teaching and healing mission.   We also seek to follow him in giving our lives to God, whatever happens.   We are inspired by the fact that although his dedication took him to a cruel death on a cross, it also resulted in him being raised from the dead, and still seeming to be with us in a spiritual sense.    The church sees itself as his body now, to carry forward his mission.

This means that first object of our mission is to love God, seeking God’s will for the direction of our lives.   We do this through prayer and worship.   In our main act of worship, the Eucharist, we seek to identify ourselves with Jesus and his mission.   We are then sent out to show the love of God to others.   We especially celebrate times such as Christmas, Easter and Harvest and invite all others to join with us in our celebrations.

We show that love by the way we live our lives.  Amongst ourselves we support and pray for the sick and housebound.  We can also offer visits to those in hospital and counselling to those who are troubled.  We also seek to give time and space to seeking the influence of God’s Spirit in our lives.   In the community we seek to help those in need by providing facilities for activities such as Express Groups and other organisations and play our part in the work that is needed.    We are active members of Churches Together groups in our area.

In the wider world, we consider it important to support the work of organisations like Christian Aid  We help support the work of Jacaranda House Orphanage in Swaziland.          We react with help in the all too frequent occasions when there is a disaster somewhere in the world, be it natural or man made, and on the widest of scales we are seeking to make the lifestyle of our churches more eco-friendly in order to do our part in helping to save the planet.

We seek encourage those outside the church to try out our fellowship.    We believe that when a person finds out what a positive effect Christian belief has on their lives, they will want to join us.    This joining is marked by the ceremony of Baptism.    Those who have been baptized as babies, and seek to rejoin the Christian community are offered a ceremony of Affirmation of their belief.    The older pattern of Baptism and confirmation is still available.

We offer a wonderfully meaningful Wedding Service, for those who wish to get married.   We offer a Funeral Service for those who have died, and care for those who have been bereaved, showing them that especially in such times God loves them and gets them through their grieving.
